A Bonfire in my mouth by Susi Newborn

N/A

Life, Passion and the Rainbow Warrior

As an environmental activist and a founding director of Greenpeace UK, Susi Newborn was a woman with burning issues, unafraid to name them and take direct action. From early campaigns on the Arctic ice to save baby seals being bludgeoned to death, to riding Zodiacs in front of whalers' harpoons, Susi was there. Her signature bought the Sir William Hardy, the Scottish fishing trawler she later renamed the 'Rainbow Warrior', and she was one of her original crew.

As the daughter of an Argentinian diplomat serving in London and Europe she was born to a life of privilege - her parents dined with royalty, her mother took Eva Peron shopping in Harrods and Susi grew up in an exclusive English boarding school and on the Italian Riviera.

When her father died suddenly in mysterious circumstances, Susi chose a life of environmental activism, which put her in the heart of the Greenpeace phenomenon, on speaking terms with rock stars and celebrities. In the turbulent years that followed, her courage and principles were tested, and in the aftermath of the Rainbow Warrior's destruction she went on to make a new life for herself and her daughter.
